I travelled to Athens on dialysis and wanted to share how it went, so you know what to expect before you go.
The dialysis care
This was one of the friendliest teams I have met on my travels. Warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to have us. It made the whole experience easy.
The food
Not just any food: according to the nurse, sandwiches were delivered straight from a famous local Greek bakery. But like a gas station sandwich, and you get 2 packed in a bag that you can take home.
What it costs
Greece accepts the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), so if you are an EU patient bring a valid card and it should cover your dialysis. Confirm the details when you book.
How to find the dialysis
Address: Sevastoupoleos 15, Athina 115 26, Greece.
Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/XaGRpgmdRE9TFuHi8
Contact person: Helen Sotiropoulou (secretariat support), info@euronephros.gr
What you need to bring:
A medical report.
Viral marker results.
Your most recent test results, done within the last 30 days.
A valid European Health Insurance Card.
A passport copy.
They use their own form.
Would I recommend Athens?
Yes. A city full of history, and a truly friendly team.
We organise group trips for dialysis patients, so you do not have to plan it all alone.
